Choosing Safari as your default Web browser will make it so that Safari is the first program that opens every time you access the Web. There are two ways in which to set up Safari as your default browser. You can either change it through your computer's 'Preferences' window, or directly within Safari itself. If you're running Safari on a Windows PC, you can adjust the setting to make Safari your default browser within the Safari web browser. To do so, open Safari, open the Safari pull-down menu choose Preferences 'General' tab next to 'Default web browser' choose Safarifrom the available options. In Windows 7, open Control Panel in icon view. Click the icon for Default Programs. At the Default Programs window, click the link to Set your default programs. Select the browser you want to set. The Safari Settings screen includes other options you may want to use with your new default search engine. You can toggle each of these options on or off: Search Engine Suggestions presents suggested search terms as you type, obtained from the default engine.
What is a Default Web browser?
The default web browser on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or any device means that when you click on a link from other apps, it will straight up open in that browser only. Macs come pre-installed with Safari as the default option. However, if you prefer alternatives like Chrome, Edge, or Firefox, you can easily switch to them.

- You can also set Startpage as your browser's homepage. This way, it is available each time you open a new tab or window. Please follow the instructions given here to learn how to do this.
- With the release of Safari 13, Apple removed support for Safari extensions that required control of the URL bar, which unfortunately includes our private browsing extension. There is therefore currently no way to add Startpage as the default search engine in Safari. Feel free to contact Apple directly and ask that they restore this feature.
